Citroën LN

Postby single spoke » Wed Jul 06, 2011 10:00 pm

Hi, I have bought the LN that grumm had, and also own a Dyane and ami 8 Break.
I am new to the forum.
Does anyone have experience of LN / LNA rear wheel bearings?
May be the same as the Visa (not sure).

I've followed the tightening procedure in the Peugeot 104 Haynes book for the rear hub nuts after doing some brake work but not entirely happy with it.
Manual states to tighten hub nuts to 22lb/ft while rotating drum, slack nut off, then apply brakes.
Then tighten to 3.5 lb/ft, then back off 30 degrees, and peen the nut.

Doesn't seem tight enough to me and moves a bit when hammering with the punch.

Can anyone assist?, nuts are the earlier type which are 24mm (rather than the later cars which area bit bigger)

Welcome to the forum! :) Glad to see the car back in the 'fold' so to speak and good to hear it went to an enthusiast.

I'm not sure about the wheel bearings but I'm sure someone will!

...as Franklin says welcome to the forum. SteveC has an LN, which he uses as his everyday car and does most of his own servicing - I'll drop him a PM. :D

Thanks for your help, it's a great little car.
Currently I'm fettling the seats from a Talbot Samba into the car.
The fronts bolt straight in, but the back seat has donated the cover to re-cover my old seats.
I'll try and post some photo's when I can.

An excellent purchase- well done.

I'm not jealous one bit...

No idea about the rear brakes though, other than whatever the Haynes Book of Lies says... ;) -lol-

The way I always do the ones on my Samba (which are the same I believe) is to nip it up (sorry, torque to 22lbft) then back it off then do it back up with a spanner whilst rocking the staked washer back & forward with a screwdriver or other suitable tool - there needs to be resistance to moving the washer ie not loose but not solid either. It may sound odd but it's quite straightforward when you actually do it. It is important that they're not too tight - having one seize in the outside lane of the A1 going into a roundabout with armco on one side and an articulated lorry on the other is not a pleasant experience.
Flat out - like a lizard drinking

Ah, I seem to have the hang of it.............

I've just fitted the interior (modified slightly) from a Samba.
The original seat covering had completely disentigrated.........
