new to the c15

Postby dme » Sat Dec 17, 2011 9:39 pm

Hi I'm Dave, a painter & decorator, I have just bought a c15 600 1.9 65k on a 03 plate, I wanted basic so I can do my own repairs, I am just building a 6 meter wide garage with a pit and workshop, trying to make life as easy as possible now I'm 52, I bought the van blind off ebay £600 I took a gamble that it would have power steering, but it dosn't, not yet anyway, I read on the forum with great enthusiasm that it can be fitted, so would appreciate your help. Thanks in advance Dave.

PS. when I met my wife 26 years ago I was driving a Dyane 400cc so I've had basic before -lol-

Welcome Dave
Basic they may be but a good choice for a workhorse, it looks as it may be spoilt with the garage, pit and workshop :D

Hi Dave
I had a Transit turbo with power steering prior to this, my first C15 and
put power steering on the top of my todo list.
Now I dont even notice it and its off the todo list, so just give it a while mate.
Good front tyres kept at correct pressures will help

At 65K I'd be wanting to know the condition of the cam belt and filters
If you're uncertain if the belts been done, do it if only for peace of mind
Get the kit not just the belt.
A good service should keep it reliable.

The cam belt kit is my first priority, (now I've done the broken front spring) its got service history, its got 155 tyres on so I will be putting narrower tyres on to help, see how that goes, but when you do 2, 5 point turns and an average of 4, 3 point turns every day then power steering is a real benefit. Thanks

Welcome Dave
I have two C15s and really the steering is not hard but you will notice that a three point turn turns into a four, just not enough lock on the vans. In my travels to the old scrap here in France I have only ever seen one with power steering and no turbo's at all. The brakes are not so hot either. But all in all its a fine van and used by many farmers in France which tells you somethiing. :bien:

Thanks, as regw said I am getting more used to it, problem now is when I get into my MK1 RAV4 at weekends I'm over steering (all over the road at times) and at every junction on go the wipers -lol- going to put some thinner tyres on the front for winter, love the price of tyres for the C15 bid on eBay got a new tyre for £2.32 +£8 p&p
