Raid Tan Hill

Postby SteveC » Fri Jan 06, 2012 8:35 pm

It's mainly a 2CV and related A-series jaunt, but it's always nice to see other Citroens coming along for the trip out.

I'll be giving the LN a good run out for this- no need for snow tyres this time unlike last year's snow-bound adventure. This year will be quite tame in comparison.

I always go straight to Hawes for around 11.30am and buy some nice cheese from the Wensleydale dairy shop, whilst waiting for the convoy to arrive in the car park.

Was planning on and was really looking forward to it, but my 2CV has issues!!

On my way home after a great day out on the Wye Knots 2CV’s Hair of the Snail Trail up Lord Herefords Knob last weekend, my 2CV felt down on power – even more than normal LOL
Unfortunately Its developed an oil leak. I knew it already had of a very minor leak, but this time I fear its bad.
After a short while after leaving the last meeting point of the day near Hereford, I noticed I was leaving trail of smoke a car smelt of oil.
Not knowing how bad actually it was or where it was coming from, no idea how to prevent it, and especially no clue as to how to stop it, with RAC phone number & membership number in hand, Esther, the kids & I, liking a challenge, decided to keep going & try make home [now about 40 miles].

Jon aka spanners [some of you know him] set off just before me & having passed him earlier when he’d stopped for fuel, was now in my trail. Jon soon caught up with me around Bransford - 10 or so miles from Worcester.
Despite the smell of oil getting worse, & us fearing the worst, our 2CV kept on going!! I had faith it her!! Until now its been great to us & in the 3 years I’ve owned it, been a outstanding little car.

We passed M5 J7 but not wanting to go on the motorway in a sick 2CV [bad enough in a good one]
Battling on, with Jon in his Ami behind, through Worcester, Dritwich & on through Bromsgrove, to Redditch & to my house.
Not had time to investigate yet but Jon aka Spanners is coming round soon to take the engine out for further investigation. Likely to need a rebuild
Added on to my ever lengthening ‘to do / to get done’ list - haha

If anyones interested… please take a few minutes to view the pics and 2 videos of this event
[Sorry about the quality, the kids took alot of them, and a few by Esther & me]

I think Ru's referring to Facebook. I haven't got it myself either...
