Right, how many Citroens have you owned?

Postby IsaacLightfoot » Sun Aug 15, 2010 7:47 pm

Question is the title, how many citroens have you or your family owned over the years ?
My life so far has always been heavily based around citroens, and everything to do with them. Due to my dad owning his own Citroën and Peugeot specialists for the past 30 years or so...
Currently, we own quite a large number, simply because i have my own little restoration thing going on.
Ok, here goes:
A GSA Enterprise, (with rotten sills, due to being stuck in the same place outside for 10 years, but one of probably 10 GS vans remaining in the world)
A 1972 HY, with a double cab, and a fabric roof at the back, used to be owned by french telecoms, being orange, it's now blue!
A 1969 Ami 8 saloon, RHD, in red. Restored by myself, pictures can be seen around and about, and my avatar ,
A 1985 2CV charleston, nearly finished from a FULL restoration, new floors, gal chassis, full respray.
Also, a BX 16 valve, which has been standing for a VERY long time. I shall attempt to get it started soon, but It needs a new cembelt tensioner.
Oh, and a Xantia estate, which my dad bought for 100 squids, after a quick height corrector repair, and de seize, it now works perfectly.
Obviously, the quintessential C15 van, in white, which is possibly my favourite citroën in the whole wide world, I love it to bits!
It's all rusted up, or is that patina ? I don't know. It has so much character, never refuses to start, EVER, and drives along happily, with good comfort, and the best heater in any car ever ever.
Also, it's done 253,000 miles, and my dad bought it for 150 quid :)
Over the years, my family must have owned literally HUNDREDS of citroens, 2CVs , GSes, GSAs, dynes etc etc etc.
So I hand it over to you what do you and what have you previously owned in the wonderful world of citroens?
Frugg, I'm desperately awaiting a reply.

Well, this won't be a long list, as my dad was a Vauxhall man, so we had Mk1, Mk2 and mk3 Cavaliers. I did try really hard to get him to realise that a BX would be a good idea...he got yet another Cavalier

However, once the parents realised they needed a second car things got interesting, with a 1975 Fiat 126, and a 1977 Renault 4. Then, in 1989, my dad finally came round to the Citroën way and bought my mum a...

1983 (A-reg) red 2CV6 Special- my brother and I learned to drive in it (he hated it). I drove it on it's final journey to Dacorum College in Hemel Hempstead for a rebuild in summer 1993...still not finished

I then used my mum's Fiesta occasionally for a few years as and when needed, until finally in 1998 I bought a...

1980 Dyane 6- used for a couple for a couple of years until a slight 'snow and tree' related incident put that off the road- also now 'resting'.

After a few years of Ford Fiesta/VW Polo/Nissan Micra dullness I decided I needed a Citroën again, and that's where the current car comes in...

1984 LNA (started off as a 652cc, now 602cc and much better for it)

Some lovely stories.
My Dad's first car was a Vauxhall viva, which to this day, he still says was totally awful.
He didn't have that long.
He then had various different minis, mini vans etc etc.
Then when he worked at the Citroën main dealers, he was offered a Red Citroën GSX2, he said it was the best car he had ever owned. As you can imagine, going from a mini to a GS was quite a jump, obviously being in the motor trade back then had it's advantages, not like today, where you are allways the victim, being the business owner and all, so he could get Mot's on it very easily. Only until he checked underneath to find a LOT of rust. At that was the end of that.
Only until later, when he finished his driving school company, did he start getting back into citroens again. Then we had several lovely cars, a low mileage 2cv (18,000 i think) and a 1960 ripple bonnet, and a DS, and hordes of GS'es etc. He did have one visa, which was bought from a little old lady who couldn't drive anymore for pennies, she was going to scrap it i think, or something like that. So he had that for a while too.

There's just too many to list! -lol-
I think that I’ll go in models and add some history that I can remember of certain ones:

AX - various models (!)

BX - many including MK1 GT, 16v, TZDs, GTis and a very recent TXD that we have just sold to Ireland...32K from new! 8-)

CX - Were could I start...All models...! :D I’d say we’ve had hundreds!

DS - Not many as we don't really like them! -lol-, Super 5, 23 IE Pallas

Rosalie - 10cv

Xantia - many including V6, HDi, 2.0i, Exclusive etc etc

Visa - 14 TRS, GTi...others in past

C15 - many, inculding a brand new one with the number plate of P 5 Rugg...now on the C6 all those years later! :D And the rare Pickup version too.

GS - many over the years...

GSA - again, mainy over the years...but a very special one was a 10,000 mile ( :o  ) one...Mint wasn't a word! 8-)

XM (thankfully no more!) - a couple

C3 - - we ran a 1.4HDi for a bit.

C4 - - HDi x2, and a VTS that was modified with airbrushed flames down the side...we took that to the National Rally a couple of years back! :)

C5 - ran a 1.6 HDi for a bit, others include V6s

C6 - only the one and officially name, Dad's car! -lol-

Saxo - a couple of VTSs, and one that was modified to over 150BHP that was running on NOS! :D

Xsara - ran one on the P 5 RUG plate - 2.0 Hdi.

Xsara Picasso - many...generally to sell

Xsara Grande Picasso - just the one...was to sell

ZX - a couple including Volcane's etc.

I don't know exactly how many Citroën's that dad has had...because mostly were before I was born! -lol-

Wow, that's quite a list.
Well, this whole Citroën business is mainly a things on the side these days, most of my dads attention is set on other things:

The numberplate was originally from a CX GTI turbo 2. :D

I thought I recognised that car...I think I'm right in saying you turned up in that at the last Stratford Upon Avon Midland section rally in it?
I remember the car now, by you saying about the number plate, as Roger (Bradford) was telling me about it! :)
Oh, and it was the only bright orange Porsche on the site! -lol-

Well, the Ami was currently still a wreck at that point, and i had only really just started doing it again.
It was nice going actually, some recognisable faces that i hadn't seen in years!
And i suppose you're right, lol.

My first brush with Citroens was because as I came to driving age my farther had a 1973L GS 1220 Club in metallic green, I did my driving practice on it and then when I passed my test I got to borrow it. My farther continued to have Citroens, several GSs, a Visa, GSA and BXs. I borrowed most of his cars for odd trips but bought two of then from him, the first was a 1976R GS Pallas in 1984 and the second a 1978S GSX2 in 1985.

I then worked for a Citroën garage on the sales side and had a 1987 BX 16RS followed by a 1987 CX 20RE Familiale, the dealership was not in good financial shape, so I left in June 1987 to return to Volvo. Working for a Citroën garage even for a short time gave me the chance to drive lots of different Citroens. Another job change saw me return to Citroën at the end of 1994 and into a company Xantia1.8 LX and in 2 years I got thought 10 Company Xantias and two ZXs! I took in part exchange a lovely low mileage 1988 2CV that had a new chassis under warrantee and bought it for myself. While working at the garage I got to drive my first Traction as we looked after one for a customer who worked aboard and it needed exercising.

I left the motor trade at the end of 1996 and in 2002 I started running an old Range Rover and needed an economical runabout to go alongside it. I sought out a Visa diesel that I ran for 2 ½ years.

In 2006 an impulsive eBay bid meant I owned a 1983 CX 2.4 I/E Pallas Auto. That started the whole Citroën thing off again a GS special, D Super (blue), CX 25 Familiale, Visa 10E, CX25 DTR, Visa 17RD, D Super (white), ZX 1.9D Avantage and ZX19D Avantage Auto followed.

The current fleet is the CX 2400 I/E Pallas Auto, D Super(white), and Visa 17RD.

Total personally owned =14
