Twin-pot LN(A)

Postby SteveC » Sun Apr 25, 2010 3:21 pm

Here are some pics of my LN, which started as a 652cc LNA, and is now more of an LN due to having a 602cc engine fitted.

So here again is the pic a short time after I got it to England
Image

No rear seats, just a flat load platform as it was the Entreprise version. The seats might have been from an old Peugeot or something- they were quite wide and filled the car a bit too much.
Image

After I had some dents repaired, I thought it was about time to fit the LN side trims- it took a bit of patience and some string.
Image

With the various LN bits fitted, it looked a bit less plasticky now.
Image

Even the dashboard came from an LN. The seats are from an LNA and came from Germany, and are a basket-weave type pattern. The seat foam is firmer than the LN seats I have, and softer than the C15 seats I put in temporarily.

Oh yes, the rear seats are in at last!

Uploaded some pics from today. As it was a 2-seat version, it never had rear seats. To make the car a bit more usable I decided to go about fitting rear seats. The seat bases bolt onto a cross member with holes already cut in- they have been in the car for ages.

For the seat backs, this would mean replicating the original style fittings. So I had two upper mounts fabricated to be welded onto the rear suspension turrets, and a square section steel cross-member cut to length.

Week before last was welding day, and I have been tidying up and painting during the last week. Finally got the rear seats in today, and re-fitted the carpet.

Couldn't resist sitting in the back to see just how tight it was. The french road tests of the time really weren't wrong when they described the back seats as only suitable for small children- I'm 6ft and could only fit in sideways!

At least stuff in the boot won't slide around so much now. :)

I know you've seen this before Steve, but the French LN brochure pictures still tickle me as they tend to make the car out to be a sizeable people and Great Dane carrier. Perhaps there are another two LN parked out of shot and those are the contents from three LN and just think what the Great Danes did to those fragile seats - I know the dogs ran along behind:

Little update...

Decided to start on re-painting the spare front panels I have (only got the main panel and one of the little side panels though, so I'm re-using one of the original side panels off the car).

It has taken a while to do as the white stone-chip (Hammerite stuff) has gone on quite thick, and is easily marked by the slightest hard edge, meaning sanding down and re-doing a few times...oops.

Finally on to top coating over the last 2 weeks- main panel is done, and I'm doing the final coat on the side panels at the moment. I've used cellulose topcoat in rattle cans, rather than the usual acrylic.

Old v new

The old main panel and front right panel are now up for grabs- plenty of surface rust, the odd dent, but still quite usable- no doubt they'll be coming along to Gaydon.

That does look good - my soft-top's front valance is a bit rusty so I might give that a try.
