Visa Chausson ??? - Hello from Berlin

Postby linoberlin » Mon Nov 22, 2010 8:46 pm

Hello forumers,

my name is Henning, based in Berlin, Germany.

Just recently a "new" 1984 Visa has become part of the family (C3 Pluriel and a 1983 GSA Spécial).

Both the GSA and the Visa (11E) are in Bleu Camargue (GNX-S) and all blue inside. Bought in southern France via Ebay. Love them!

And now here is my question:

On top of the "11E" plaque there is another plaque that says "Chausson". And the rear of my Visa is different. See the pictures.

When googling "Visa Chausson" I only find information about the 6wheelers. Now, can anyone help me to find out what version or series my Visa is? Are there any others of this kind? How many were built? How much additional costs for the buyers at the time? And that chrome bar/handle: was it custom made or taken from another car/truck?

I could not get any useful information in the general Citroën forum in Germany and there is no Visa enthusiasts group or forum here.

...hello Henning and welcome to the forum. Your Visa looks very nice, the colour Bleu Camargue was not sold for the Visa in the UK we had Cornflower Blue instead, how many km has it done.

...I have never seen a Visa boot like the one on your 11E, not even the Visa Entreprise has a boot like that. I have checked the Carossier Chausson information that I have, but I can not find details of your Visa convertion. I would guess that it has been custom converted to take perhaps a wheel chair, the shape of the standard Visa boot is like this:

yes, I had 2 Visas in the 80s - so I knew from the begonning that this is a strange backside

The little blue car had 58.000 km when I bought it and has now 59.000 because I had to chase the poor thing all through France because of their strike in October. The car pick-up train didn't leave from Avignon. Instead it left from Lörrach in the south of Germany, near Basel. She did well. Only the exhaust broke...

The boot thing is definitely an alteration, but not pure hand made. The metal pieces that are fitted are industrially made.

It's funny, because the car does not have any other extra feature. Not even a radio. (not nice to drive 1000 km through France without radio!!!)

I bought it from the family of its owner, a 95 year old!

Grandpa doesn't even know that the family took the car from the garage and have sold it. So he could not be asked about details....

And my French language skills are definitely not good enough to write to the Chausson people.

Maybe someone else has a hint.

...that is a good low mileage and I guess there is very little rust because you bought it from the South of France, also is the seat fabric ok and not damaged by the sun. :?: I should think it was the longest car journey the car had ever done from the South of France to Lorrach. :!: :D

...I've always found it funny that the rear speakers and the aerial were standard - but the radio was an extra. :D

...it is difficult to get infomation about Carossier Chausson de France since they closed in 2000. :(

She is totally rust free except a few spots under the main cylinder where brake liquid has leaked.

And the seat covers are not burnt by sun (my GSA's are) because the car has been stored in the garage under a cloth all those years. Still, the car has obviously never been cleaned. And the département of Herault seems to be a pretty dusty one.

So, I am spending time with cleaning now. That's some meditation for the winter days, I think.

And I have a list of things to do before she will pass the german MOT. Been there already and the man found a few things. No big problems though.

She'll be fit for the road for Easter weekend. That's traditionally the 1st drive-out of our little classic car group.

Hello Henning and welcome to the forum.

It looks like you have found yourself a lovely Visa, fantastic colour.

Unfortunately, I have to say I've never come across your conversion before and cannot shed any more light on it. Good luck with the search.

Welcome Henning,
What a nice looking car. Blue Camargue is my favourite of the blues.
For interest, the colour was brought into the UK - My 1972 Dyane is Blue Camargue!

...I know we mentioned a boot convertion similar to yours on the "82 Visa" thread Henning - 82-visa-t583.html#p4253 - but I've come across another one on a French forum so they were obviously quite common in France:
