Visa GTi Bodykit...

Postby Frugg » Thu Dec 29, 2011 3:16 pm

Just to confirm that I am right in thinking that the bodykit and bumpers on the GTi are colour coded to the rest of the car? :?: I'm pretty sure they are, just that (eg) the CXs have a slightly darker shade of paint on their bumpers...

Thanks. :D

...page 3 on this pdf link - http://oto.to/schematy/kolory.pdf - which is on our forum thread - paint-cards-and-codes-t171.html#p919 - says that a 1986 Rouge Vallelunga GTi has a body colour EBK and a bumper colour FJA, if that helps Franklin. I have owned a red one before but never gave the paint colours any thought as it was very rusty. :D

Thanks for that info Mike about the colours and that has made me think! Now I was under the impression that Rouge Vallelunga much more orange in colour and the reason being is that dad's GSA is that colour, and when the paintwork was done on the Oltcit it was sprayed in...Rouge Vallelunga.

Now I think that that is much more orange so I've just nipped outside to the garage and grabbed a picture of the paint code on the GTi. So it still is EKB "Rouge Vallelunga" but I wonder what that "eS" stands for? Perhaps that stands for what shade it is as dad was asked a couple of times when he went and bought some paint what shade he wanted.

Was just looking on the Paint Cards and Codes thread on this post here and for the 1987 model year...
1987
Alpine White AC088 WET
Sky Blue AC5750 EMB
Magnetic Blue AC9023 EPU
Black AC200 EXY
Delage Red AC446
Sunrise Red AC448 GKB
Venetian Red EJX

...it appears that there's three reds. It's definitely not Delage Red (that's the 14TRS colour) so it's either "Sunrise Red" or "Venetian Red". I'd hazard a guess that Rouge Vallelunga is Sunrise Red and meanwhile Venetian Red is a much brighter red as used on (eg) the BXs.

You can also see here on Mike's upload that Venetian Red was available on the GTi as well as the Sunrise Red...

I've also just found on a French Site this picture - shows a Rouge Furio (left) GTi next to a Rouge Vallelunga GTi (right)...

Yours confused... :? :?

Answers your question though - OE schemes were bodywork and bodykit in (slightly) different colours.

Yep, very slightly different coloured (bit like the Series 2 CXs).

I'm just confused about the colours now. :? I know it should be Rouge Vallelunga as that's what the code on the car says, however with past experience with the Oltcit and dad's GSA it just doesn't look like Vallelunga. IMO I think it's Venetion Red (like those BXs). I've asked Dom to pop along here and pass comment but in the meantime he reckons that the eS stands for the paint manufacturer and tint variation...

As has already been pointed out, theres two types of red GTi.

EKB Sunrise Red (Rouge Vallelunga) with the bumpers and bodykit in: FJA (simply Rouge Mat).
EJX Venetion Red (Rouge Furio) with the bumpers and bodykit in: FJX (again Rouge Mat).

If I remember rightly, the eS after the main paint code will be a factory code for the paint manufacturer and variation used, but I could be wrong there.

I've had another look at the photos you've posted Franklin and with a fresh(ish!) set of eyes, I have to say it does seem to be Sunrise Red especially under 'flash'. Venetion is a deeper, darker red. Is there an RP number stamped anywhere? It might indicate if it is an '87 car or earlier.

(BTW CX Florentine Red is EJV with the bumpers FJF)

Thanks for that Dom.

I've just gone and had a look and I reckon (it's slightly faded) that the RP Number is 3830 or 3850.

I think that this picture helps quite a lot as they're side by side so have the same photo conditions (lighting etc) and clearly shows which is which.

I think I do agree with you Dom in that it's Sunrise Red (Rouge Vallelunga) on my GTi as that's what the code says. The only trouble is though, is that having seen it on the Oltcit and GSA I think it's too orange! :o I don't want to have it all prepped and it coming out too orange if you see what I mean. For some reason it doesn't look 'right'. Or is it just me? :o -lol-

Slightly of topic but it's interesting to see that the 115ch decal is on the front wings on both cars not on the doors.

Its a May '87 car so could have been either, but as you say that photo confirms its Sunrise really. In my opinion Sunrise is one of those reds thats quite a shallow colour, whereas Venetion has a bit of depth to it (as most darker colours do). They're both Citroën's 'sporty' colours being used alot on the GSA X1s (+ 205 GTis) and BX 16vs, AX GTs, Saxos respectively. To be honest, I do like the brightness the orange gives the colour, but you're the one whos got to live it! Its a dilemma alright.

There's a man with keen eyes - I'd not noticed. I had noticed the stripe didn't go all the way but not that it was because the 115ch decal was in the way. Duh.
