Which petrol/diesel do you use?

Postby SteveC » Tue Dec 06, 2011 6:20 pm

So far I have always used regular unleaded in the LN, only splashing out on super unleaded at Sainsbury's in Harrogate when filling up when attending the Northern Section rally at Weatherby.

I used to buy Shell petrol nearly all the time until they put the price up by 1p a litre when that new Fuelsave petrol was introduced. Then I got an Asda (supermarket) credit card that gets me 1p off each litre with them, so used that ever since.

However, since a new Sainsbury's opened nearby I have been buying their super unleaded quite often. I *think* the car runs from cold better on super than on regular (it can be a bit lumpy on regular). The engine came from a 2CV, so has 8.5:1 pistons. Can a higher octane petrol really make such a noticeable difference, or am I imagining it?! -lol-

The Visa won't need any petrol for quite a while, but I think that is supposed to run on super? :?

Anyhow, what juice does you use in your car(s) and why, and do you use big brands or cheapo supermarket? :?:

Well, my Samba - essentially the same 1360 as in the Visa gets fed Sainsbury's Super Unleaded with some Millers CVL (valve seat lubricant) added. It was designed to run on good old 4 Star, ie 98 RON - hence using SUL and I've never managed to find out if the head is unleaded compatible - hence the CVL.

The GTI (when it's finished) will get either Tesco99 (if my Tesco sells it) or Shell VPower - it'll need all the RON it can get (up to the 100 RON max allowed by the regulations that is). They are apparently the best available at the moment. Tesco99 comes out best as VPower only has a shelf life of about 3 weeks.

Is there much of a price difference between Sainsbury's super and the Tesco 99?

In my part of the world super is 131.9p and regular is 128.9p.

Not found Tesco99 yet so don't know. SUL is 6p more than UL round here.
